Burna Boy, Davido, Asake, and More Nominated for Grammy Awards 2023

Following the announcement of the 66th annual Grammy nominations on Friday, some of Nigeria’s biggest names made headlines in different categories. Grammy-winning rapper Burna Boy was nominated for four awards, while singer-songwriter Davido was nominated for three.

Burna Boy was the first Nigerian artist to be nominated for a Grammy. Davido, on the other hand, was nominated for his first Grammy.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Asake was also nominated for her first Grammy. Olamide and singer-songwriter Ayra Starr were also nominated for their first Grammy nominations, each with one.

Here is the full list of nominees as published by the Recording Academy on their official website.

The nominees in the newly created category of “Best African Music Performance” are “Amapiano” by Asake with Olamide, “City Boys” by Burna Boy, “Rush” by Ayra Starr, “Unavailable” by Davido and “Alone” by Tyla, and “Feel” by Odesa.

The nominations for “Best Melodic Rap” are “Sitting On Top Of The World” featuring 21 Savage for “I Told Them” and “I Feel” for “Alone” and “Timeless” for “Best Global Music Album” and “Best Global Music Performance.”

The 66th annual Grammy Awards will take place on February 4th, 2024 at the Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
