Governor Fubara Defends Against Impeachment Amidst Political Turmoil in Rivers State

Governor Siminalayi Fubara, currently under the threat of impeachment by the State House of Assembly, vehemently asserted that he has not engaged in any actions that would warrant his removal from office.

He made this declaration on Monday when addressing his supporters at the Assembly Complex.

The Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, and other members had convened to commence the impeachment proceedings.

The governor fervently asked, “Let them come forward and explain to the people of Rivers State what specific actions or offenses I have committed that would justify impeachment.” He assured the people that he remains committed to delivering the benefits of democracy to them.

Governor Fubara also mentioned that he would address the press at the appropriate time to provide more details on the matter.

Notably, the situation at the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex became chaotic, with reports of gunshots and the firing of tear gas on the same day as the impeachment process was set in motion.

Furthermore, some lawmakers, including the House leader, Edison Ehie, who were perceived as loyal to the governor, were suspended by their colleagues. This turbulent turn of events occurred shortly after a fire incident at the Assembly Complex on the previous night.
