2022 KCIC Green Innovation Challenge for green innovators

The KCIC Green Innovation Challenge will give you a platform to connect with global partners and investors in the climate change and sustainability space. GIC seeks to identify and support green innovations among the youth as adaptation and mitigation interventions on climate change in Kenya. In order to have a multiplier effect, the selection process will be administered through a reality TV show on KTN.

NETFUND will facilitate the application process while business and technical support will be provided by KCIC Consulting.
The innovations will thematically focus on agribusiness, water resource management, waste management, commercial forestry, renewable energy and energy efficiency and sustainable tourism.

KCL enjoys a wide regional presence particularly within the East, West, and Southern Africa. We have implemented capacity building, business development and market access projects for SMEs in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana, South Africa, Ghana, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. 

The team of experts bring together combined experience in enterprise development, sustainability, fundraising, capacity building, research, among others within the wider Agricultural, Energy, Waste management, Water resource management, and Commercial forestry sectors.

Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) is a World Bank’s infoDev initiative, and was the first in a global network of CICs being launched by  infoDev’s Climate Technology Program (CTP) to support the development and scale up of locally relevant climate technologies. KCIC was initially set up as a project by a consortium of partners in September 2012 and was funded by UKaid and DANIDA through the World bank from September 2012 – May 2016 . GVEP International (now Energy4Impact), PwC, Strathmore University and KIRDI were the lead partners in a consortium contracted by infoDev to establish and operate the KCIC. The

KCIC was successfully registered as a company limited by guarantee in January 2015 and received a new round of funding from DANIDA to support its activities for the period June 2016 to Dec 2020.

Requirement for the KCIC Green Innovation Challenge.

  • Participants will be shortlisted from a long list of applicants of ages between 15 and 35 with innovative solutions on any of the thematic areas.
  • A jury of judges will be identified from funding partners. Winners will be awarded at an evening gala during the Green Investment Forum.
