The 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination results for private applicants nationwide have been made public by the West African Examinations Council.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Tuesday night by Moyosola Adesina, the interim head of public affairs for WAEC Nigeria.
Out of the 80,904 individuals who took the exam, only 46,267, in her estimation, received at least five credits.
According to her, this corresponds to 57.19% of applicants receiving credit or higher in at least five disciplines (whether or not they include math and/or English language).
She continued by saying that 35,830 candidates, or 44.29% of the total, received credit or better in at least five courses, including math and English.
The statement said, “From Friday, October 27, 2023, to Wednesday, December 20, 2023, the examination was conducted in Nigeria.” From Tuesday, January 16, to Tuesday, January 30, 2024, there were SEVEN (7) marking venues in Lagos, Ibadan, Akure, Benin, Enugu, Uyo, and Kaduna where the coordination of examiners and the marking of candidates’ scripts took place. Examiners from 4,162 different countries took part in the coordinating and marking exercise.
A total of 80,904 applicants took the exam at 568 locations throughout the nation, marking a 10.07% increase over the 77,768, or 85,600, candidates who entered for the exam in 2022.
“211 candidates with varied levels of special needs were registered for the examination among the candidates who took it.
Thirty-three of them were Albinos, twenty-one had hearing impairments, and thirty were visually challenged. The exam was administered with sufficient consideration for each of these candidates with special requirements.
The management of the regional examination body advised candidates to check their status and results at www.waecdirect.org before going to www.waec.org, the Digital Certificate platform, to view the digital copies of their certificates that have been made available along with their results.
